College Prep · 5 health-career pathways
HOSA participation positions students for five college-pathway clusters. Each pathway has its own admissions calculus — pre-med differs from nursing differs from public health. Below: how HOSA experience maps onto each, what GPA / coursework expectations each program has, and which iHOSA track best feeds each.
Pre-Medicine (MD / DO)
Undergrad pre-med → MCAT → medical school. Long pathway (8+ years post-high-school). HOSA’s Anatomy & Physiology, Pathophysiology, Medical Math, and Health Science events directly build the science foundation.
Best iHOSA fit: ATC or CCE · Division: Both
Pre-Dental (DDS / DMD)
Similar pathway length to MD but dentistry-specific. Dental Science event in HOSA is the natural anchor. Pre-dent applicants benefit from sustained healthcare-context exposure that HOSA membership documents.
Best iHOSA fit: CCE · Division: II preferred
Nursing (BSN / RN)
4-year BSN programs are direct-entry from high school. Nursing Assisting event in HOSA is the introductory skill set. International students need to research US BSN program international-student admission policies (some restrict CGFNS).
Best iHOSA fit: CCE · Division: II
Public Health (BPH → MPH)
Public health undergrads → MPH typical track. HOSA’s Public Health, Epidemiology, and Public Service Project events build the project-design skills public health programs assess.
Best iHOSA fit: BCE · Division: Both
Biotechnology / Biomedical Engineering
Direct admit from high school. Biotechnology, Medical Innovation, and Biomedical Debate events in HOSA align directly. Research / lab-skills exposure is the differentiator for these programs.
Best iHOSA fit: ATC · Division: Both
Pharmacy / PT / OT / Vet
Pharmacy (PharmD), Physical Therapy (DPT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Veterinary (DVM) — each has its HOSA event analog (Pharmacy Science, Physical Therapy, Veterinary Science). CCE track covers all four.
Best iHOSA fit: CCE · Division: Both
Career Information · 50+ profiles
HOSA publishes detailed profiles on the Career Information section of hosa.org/career-information/ — covering 50+ healthcare careers, each with educational requirements, salary range, and growth outlook. Below are the most-asked-about pathways for Chinese students.

| Registered Nurse (RN) | 4 yrs | BSN direct-entry from high school. US NCLEX licensure. Strong demand for nurses across US states. |
| Public Health Specialist | 4–6 yrs | BPH undergrad or MPH. Roles at CDC, WHO, NGOs, state/local health departments. Growth area post-2020. |
| Physician Assistant (PA) | 6 yrs | Undergrad + 2-yr PA Master’s. Highly clinical, less academic-research-heavy than MD. Strong job market. |
